Who we are
We welcome your interest in West Hill Baptist Church. We invite you to read this in it’s entirety as it will help you understand the basis of why we exist as well as the passion behind our existence.
VISION
STATEMENT
“A Lighthouse of hope to a dying world through the truths that are found in Jesus”
Since the beginning of West Hill in the late 60’s, we have always been about reaching people with the only truth that can bring about changed lives; the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He is the source of light that brings hope. Jesus is not a changing truth. The way that truth is shared may change, but His truth does not. We stand solely on the Word of God as the statement of truth.
PURPOSE
To meet the vision God has given us, there must be a systematic way to achieve it. The following are the purposes West Hill has been led to follow.
- To reach the lost with the Gospel of Jesus Christ through Evangelization.
- To see lives transformed for God’s glory through Worship.
- To equip believers to serve their Lord through Discipleship.
- To encourage the church in their daily life through Fellowship.
We believe these are Biblical concepts that every believer should be involved in, and when they are, change will be produced.
STRATEGY
There must be specific plans in order to bring about the purposes. The “How to’s”
Evangelization – Jesus tells us we must be involved.
Matthew 28:18-20
Mark 16:15
Luke 24:46-49
How do we do it at West Hill?
Preach the Word
Invite People to hear the Word.
Share our personal stories of change.
Worship – We are to come together and get “stirred up”.
Hebrews 10:23-25
Ephesians 5:18-21
How do we worship at West Hill?
1 - Build a relationship with God, through the Word of God.
(Personally and Corporately)
2 - Build a relationship with God through prayer.
(Personally and Corporately)
3 - Build a relationship with God through attendance.
(Corporately at services)
If we do these things, worship will transform us and change us.
Discipleship – We are to continue to grow in Jesus and learn His doctrine.
Acts 2:41-43
Notice that fear and power comes when we continue to learn; and it has a direct affect on others coming to Christ.
How do we achieve discipleship at West Hill?
1 – Small Groups
If worship happens individually and corporately – discipleship happens when there are less people not more. Where intimacy can grow and questions can be asked and answers can be given.
Some of the small groups at West Hill are:
Triple Cord, Ironmen, Women of Worth, Wednesday Night Bible Studies,
Divorce Care and others.
2 – Ministry Opportunities
The opportunity to use your spiritual gifts and talents in service to our Lord in His church is another way to grow as a disciple -application and action in the truths we believe.
3 – Giving As God Has Blessed Us
II Corinthians 9:6-8
Tithing and gifts of offering are a part of growing in Christ and enables the church to reach its vision.
If we participate in these things we will grow and be changed.
Fellowship – Families spend time together.
Acts 3:44-47
Notice how fellowship flows out of discipleship. That is the natural process.
How does fellowship take place at West Hill?
1 – Connect through “Cellife groups” which meet the first Sunday night of every other month. Get in each others homes. Eat together, play games, share life experiences.
2 – Bear one another’s burdens; as you get to know each other you can pray for that person’s needs and encourage them and you’ll be encouraged by the process.
3 – Enjoy life; participate in activities, trips, parties, athletic events etc…
Get involved and you’ll be encouraged.
Core Values Permeate
Everything We Do
“Core Values” is the ethos or feeling behind what we believe God has called us to do.
It is the fuel for our purposes and strategy. Although almost never stated outright and maybe a little hard to define, core values
are powerful and they have an enormous impact upon the health of a church.
Following are the core values of West Hill
as best we can state them:
1 – Prayer is essential for continued
effective spiritual life.
2 – Lost people matter to God and must matter to His church.
3 – God’s Word must be communicated
with doctrinal integrity and cultural relevance.
4 – God has called every Christian to
ministry utilizing their individual
giftedness.
5 – The church reflects Jesus by compassion and care of hurting, sick, poor, lonely, rejected, and forgotten people.
6 – Authentic, loving relationships should permeate every aspect of church life.
7 – Excellence honors God and influences people.
Through these core values fueling our strategies, our purposes can be realized
and vision met.
